Madness Music

It's in the air. The music of the season. Just like Jingle Bells in December, Monster Mash in October and America the Beautiful in July. You hear that piano, those synthesized horns and then Luther (RIP) Vandross's sweet, syrupy voice sings:

The ball is tipped
And there you are
You're running for your life
You're a shooting star
And all the years
No one knows
Just how hard you worked
But now it shows...

You feel it, don't you? That tingle, those goose bumps. I know. I feel it, too. Every. Single. Time. Can't help it. It's One Shining Moment, the cherry on top of March Madness. Although we don't hear the song with that year's montage until the end of the championship game (which this year is on April 6th, so maybe March Madness bleeds into April...but I digress) it is something many people, including myself, look forward to almost as much as the games. If you don't know about One Shining Moment, now is the time. Teach your children. They will thank you. And you will really appreciate it when Jack Watkins is the true freshman point guard for Duke's 2026 Championship Team and star of that year's One Shining Moment video montage.

I share with you last year's One Shining Moment.

Turn up the volume and...BELIEVE!

My face doesn't understand what your head is saying.

You must listen with your heart. Watch the video, then watch it again. You'll feel the tingle.

it's manly to cry at funerals and during "One Shining Moment"

It's not my favorite song in the world. In fact, it's nausiatingly cheesy, but it's tradition. It wouldn't be March w/o that song.

Love March Madness, the polls and the games but I'm with Melissa...just not feeling the tingle with this song! It's almost as bad as the times when they would play "There goes my hero..." when whiney Karl Malone of the Jazz would leave the court. :)

I love this part of March Maddness!!! It always chokes me up a bit. Too bad the Utes SUCKED it up terribly in their 1st round game. My only consolation was that BooYU loss too, and we won the MWC championship and tournament.
