Farm Country

For 'Surprise Day' this week, I took the kids to Farm Country at Thanksgiving Point. It was incredible weather and, because most kids are in school, there was hardly anyone there. There are tons of animals to see and pet at Farm Country and the kids can ride ponies and take wagon rides. It was a fun way for Kate and Jack (and me) to get outside on an unseasonably warm day...oh and did I mention that I want to get a pigmy goat as a pet? Well, that thought deserves it's own post, so stay tuned...

Potty Time

Jack is really interested in the potty. I am so down with this because Kate didn't want to have anything to do with potty training until after age 3. I'm so freakin' sick of changing gross diapers and just diapers in general. Okay. On Sunday, we broke out the potty and let Jack have some 'Batman' time. He is always ridiculously cute and this was no exception. He moved the potty in front of the TV so that he could watch the football game, then settled in with a bowl of snacks. I got one good candid of him before he saw the camera, then it was on and I couldn't get him to stop posing. I feel bad for other people because their babies aren't as cute as mine.

Just in case you're wondering what I did to him, the cut on his head is where he totally ate it on the sidewalk and keeps picking at the scab.

Tats for Mom

I love tattoos. I have 4 of them and greatly desire more...which doesn't mean I'll get them...but I digress. Kate loves her some tats, too. Hers are less permanent and usually involve Disney princesses (that's Ariel at the far left of the picture). The other day, she came into my room to show me her latest 'homemade' tattoo (kind of like a jailhouse tat). Aww yeah! At least it wasn't a teardrop by her eye.

Free the Stinky Minky!

My wonderful friend Amy sent me a message this morning, letting me know about an Animal Liberation Front raid on a mink farm in Kaysville, Utah (About 30 miles north of stinky Lehi). Seems a "soldier" decided to release 6,000 mink. I think this is awesome...not for the animal liberation reasons...but because why the heck are there so many frickin' mink farms around here? The craziest thing in the whole mink farm thing is this quote from the article: "They're real fragile animals," Wilcox said. "They shouldn't be in this area naturally." WTF?!?! Why are there farms for something that 'shouldn't be in the area naturally'? I digress. Hooray for the mink farm liberation. Oh, and I didn't have anything to do with it...but stay tuned for the story about minks released in Lehi. :)

Stinky Minky

Someone at Ivory Homes decided it would be a great idea to build our development right next to Johnson's Mink Ranch. This is where they raise those cute little animals that become coats for really rich people.

This looks cute and innocent, but it is the smelliest thing EVER. Imagine if you would, the combined smells of fresh manure on a hot day, a much used outhouse and dog poop. That is what it smells like outside my house whenever the wind blows. Before you remind me that I visited the house before purchasing it, I had no idea that mink farms even existed when we bought the house, so I obviously failed to ask where the closest one was located. Also, the mink farm smell doesn't occur every day. In fact, it's only now that the season has changed that it's starting to smell on a regular basis. Let me give you another example of how bad the smell is. Last night, Jack had a seriously gross poopy diaper. I usually open a window after the change to get the stink out. But when I took the diaper outside to the trash, I almost vomited. The smell was a million times worse than the diaper. In fact, I would have preferred a trashcan full of Jack diapers baking in the sun over the smell outside my house. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention the infamous Great Salt Lake stink. When the wind is right or a storm is brewing, the entire Salt Lake Valley is covered in the stink of rotten eggs. That is like the cherry on the mink farm cake.

S-A-TUR-DAY Night!

In the 90's Saturday Night Live was the best. Every skit was funny and everyone was quoting them in school on Monday morning. Unfortunately for this generation, SNL has lost most of it's funny. The one thing it does have going for it is Andy Samberg and his Digital Shorts. Seriously, if that's the only reason you DVR the show, it's worth it. This past Saturday, in honor of Michael Phelps hosting, the Digital Short was a music video for the 'Space Olympics'. We haven't erased it and we can't stop watching it. It seriously makes me pee every time I watch it...YOU'RE A WINNER!

Now please enjoy some of my other favorites...oh, and let me know what you think...am I messed up in the head for thinking these are like the funniest things ever?

Creepy Doll

The other night, I went in the check on Kate before I went to sleep. She always has more 'friends' in her bed when I check on her than she did when she initially went down. But this time, I got a little emotional when I saw her with this selection:

The doll with brown hair is mine from when I was her age. The doll is scary. When I was 4, I took the doll into our playhouse, cut it's hair and did it's 'makeup'. Turns out the makeup was acrylic paint, and my mom had to use nail polish remover to get it off. As a result, the doll looks a little like Jonathan Coulton's Creepy Doll. It's good to know that someone still loves this doll...although I hope it doesn't creep into my room and stare at me late at night.
